Premier League preview and odds: Stoke City vs Sunderland

April 30 , 2016 15:00pm - Britannia Stadium

Premier League

Stoke City`s quest for a best-ever Premier League finish has been scuppered by a run of three-straight defeats. Can they snap that trend when relegation-threatened Sunderland visit the Britannia Stadium this weekend?

Season already over for Stoke?

With safety assured and European football out of reach, it might seem that there is little left for Stoke City to play for in the league. However, boss Mark Hughes will be hoping his side can finish on a high and secure a place in the top 10 of English football.

The Potters have won just one of their last seven games and have conceded four goals in each of their last three games. On home soil, they have won just two of their last seven with both wins coming against teams in the bottom three.

Sunderland out of bottom three

A run of seven games with just one defeat has lifted Sunderland out of the Premier drop zone with four games left to play. However, the Black Cats are still level on points with Norwich City and just a point above rivals Newcastle, but with a game in hand.

Sam Allardyce`s men have lost just one of their last five matches on the road and head into this game on the back of an impressive 0-0 win at home to Arsenal.

Team news

The home team have several injury concerns with Shay Given, Ibrahim Afellay, Xherdan Shaqiri, Jack Butland, Jon Walters, Glen Johnson and Marc Wilson all in the treatment room.

Meanwhile, Jeremain Lens remains the only worry for the visitors.

Betting odds and tips

Stoke seem to have ended their season already, while Sunderland are still fighting for their lives, but this game is still a tough one to call.

The visitors have scored in 11 of their last 12 away games, while Stoke have netted in four of their last five at home.
