Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League Preview and Odds

August 27, 2018 20:00pm - Old Trafford

Premier League

Manchester United look to avoid dropping six points behind league leaders Liverpool as they welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Old Trafford on Monday night. The visitors themselves defend a 100% record and can go joint-top with a win.

It hasn`t been a great start to the season for Manchester United an unconvincing display in the win against Leicester city on the opening day was followed by defeat at Brighton and Hove Albion. It may be early days but with Liverpool and Chelsea already setting the pace at the top of the league, the Red Devils are in danger of being cut adrift. A win over Tottenham would get their season back on track.

A wave of Press criticism directed at Jose Mourinho recently has prompted the Old Trafford boss to go into full `siege mentality` mode and historically this has signalled the end of his tenure at a club. With rumours that Zinedine Zidane is being considered as a replacement, only time will tell if he weathers this particular storm.

With United looking unbalanced and lacking a clear system in the opening two games, fans will hope for improvement as they take on one of their top four rivals.

Alex Sanchez, Antonio Valencia and Nemanja Matic have all returned to training and could feature on Monday.

Meanwhile, Spurs can join the leaders on nine points with a win in the North West. They began the season with a win at Newcastle and followed it up with victory over newly promoted Fulham at Wembley, Harry Kane scoring in August for the first time.

In five seasons at the club, manager Mauricio Pochettino has yet to win a trophy and will hope to rectify that this season. However, the delayed opening of their new stadium is likely to cause disruption to their season while the spiralling costs of the project has also put the brakes on any transfer dealings.

Hugo Lloris will continue in goal despite his drink driving charge. It remains to be seen if he will continue as club captain.
