Premier League preview and odds: Sunderland vs. Stoke City

November 28, 2015 15:00pm - Stadium of Light

Premier League

After getting thumped by Liverpool last week, Manchester City face another tricky challenge on Saturday when they play host to a Southampton side that has lost just once in seven matches.

Black Cats in hunt for third win

Sunderland will be attempting to record their third win under new boss Sam Allardyce on Saturday when form side Stoke City visit the Stadium of Light for this Barclays Premier League clash.

Since Big Sam’s arrived at Sunderland, the club has clawed its way off the foot of the league table and are now within touching distance of the safety zone thanks to two wins in their last four matches. The football may not have been very pleasing on the eye but that won’t matter if the northeast club still holds Premier League status come May.

They come into this game on the back of a 1-0 win away at Crystal Palace which lifted them above AFC Bournemouth on goal difference. They will now be looking to escape from the bottom three with a win at home to their mid-table opponents.

Stoke in top form

Stoke may still be residing in the bottom-half of the Premier League table but they are in the top-four based on form over the last eight games. Despite being in 11th place they are just five points behind the first European qualification place.

Mark Hughes’ men have won their last two games (Southampton away and Chelsea at home) by just a single goal and have only lost one of their last eight matches in the league.

Team news

Sunderland will be hoping that either Jermaine Defoe or Fabio Borini can recover in time for this clash. Meanwhile, Stoke will be without Xherdan Shaqiri but Marc Muniesa could return.
