Premier League preview and odds: Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur

May 02 , 2016 20:00pm - Stamford Bridge

Premier League

Reigning Premier League champions Chelsea could end the title ambitions of London rivals Tottenham Hotspur with a win on Monday night.

Chelsea on course for top-10 finish

Following a dreadful start to the season that saw them sink dangerously close to the drop zone and prompted the dismissal of boss Jose Mourinho, Chelsea have enjoyed a period of quiet recovery, off the Premier League radar.

Under the guidance of experienced Coach Guus Hiddink, they have risen back into the top 10 and enjoyed a welcome spell of consistency that included a run of 14 games without defeat. That run was brought to an end by recent back-to-back defeats away to Swansea and at home to Manchester City. However, the Blues bounced back last time out with a 4-1 win away to Bournemouth.

On home soil, the Londoners have won just won of their last eight games, having drawn six and lost the other one. Both Teams have scored in eight of their last nine home games.

Title fate could already be decided for Spurs

If Leicester City win at Old Trafford on Sunday, TottenhamÂ’s title hopes could already be over by the time this game kicks off. As a result, the course of this game could be significantly affected by events on Sunday.

If Leicester do not win, Spurs will have to better their result to stay in the title race. If they win, however, this game could turn into a bit of a damp squib.

The North London club come into this game on the back of a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to West Bromwich Albion. Away from home, they have lost just one of their last 16 fixtures.

Team news

Gary Cahill, Loic Remy, John Terry and Kurt Zouma are all likely to miss out for the home side. Meanwhile, Nabil Bentaleb will be missing for the visitors.

Betting odds and tips

Much could depend on whether the visitors are still in the title hunt by the time this game kicks off. However, Chelsea have struggled to win at home in the league and could be on course for yet another stalemate.
