La Liga preview and odds: Celta de Vigo vs Deportivo La Coruna

April 02, 2016 22:05pm - Estadio de Balaidos

La Liga

Celta de Vigo have not given up hope of a top four finish, and will be aiming to keep the pressure on Villarreal by beating arch rivals Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday night. Meanwhile, Depor will be looking to consolidate their place in the top half of the League table.

Celta back in form

Celta de Vigo bounced back from their 7-1 thrashing at the hands of Real Madrid, with back-to-back wins at home to Real Sociedad and away to Valencia. In addition, they kept consecutive clean sheets to take their tally to four shut-outs in the last five games.

As a result, the Galician side have risen back up to fifth in the table just six points behind fourth-ranked Villarreal. With their rivals winless in four, Eduardo Berizzo and his men will be keen to maintain their momentum by winning this local derby game.

Depor out of running for Europe

Deportivo La Coruna are currently positioned in 10th place in the Primera Division, with a total of 38 points. While they appear to be safe from relegation, there was a time earlier in the season when European qualification seemed attainable. Unfortunately a league-leading haul of 15 draws has put pay to those ambitions.

Last time out, they won their first game in 13 when they edged to a 2-1 victory over bottom club Levante. Prior to that win, they had lost six and drawn seven of their previous 13 games. Away from home, they have lost their last three, and have not won any of their last eight.

Team news

The home side will be without the injured trio of Iago Aspas, Pablo Hernandez and Andreu Fontas.

Meanwhile, the visitors have several players in the treatment room inlcuding Rober, Manuel Pablo, Stipe Pletikosa, Fabricio and Sidnei.

Betting odds and tips

This is a derby game, so anything could happen. However, purely based on current form, the home side should just edge it.
