La Liga preview and odds: Eibar vs Villarreal

April 03, 2016 18:15pm - Estadio Municipal de Lpurua

La Liga

Faltering Eibar will go in hunt of their first La Liga win in six matches when they welcome a Villarreal side who are winless in four to the Estadio Municipal de Ipurua.

Eibar set to retain top-flight status

Eibar’s main objective this season would have been to retain their La Liga status - and that looks to have been achieved. However, it did seem for a while that they might mount a challenge for the European places, before a recent run of bad form saw them slip down the table. With European qualification now unlikely, the best they can hope for is to secure a top 10 finish.

A recent run of four straight defeats was brought to a halt by back-to-back 1-1 draws away to Rayo Vallecano and Getafe. On home soil, they lost their last two games - against Barcelona and Las Palmas - without scoring a goal.

Villarreal look destined for fourth place

For a while, Villarreal were in the hunt for a top-three finish in the league, but in recent weeks, the team from Castellon seem to have run out of steam. A run of four games without a win including defeats away to Las Palmas and Sevilla has seen the Yellow Submarine lose touch with third-ranked Real Madrid.

However, Marcelino`s men remain on course for Champions League qualification and will be keen to retain their six-point cushion over fifth-ranked Celta de Vigo.

In their last game,, they came from behind to hold league leaders Barcelona to a 2-2 draw at El Madrigal.

Team news

The home side will be without the injured group of Lillo Castellano, Aleksandar Pantic, Luna, Ekiza and Jaime.

Meanwhile, Alphonse Areola, Mateo Musacchio, Jaume Costa, Jonathan dos Santos and Samu Garcia will all be missing for the visitors.
