Leicester City vs Newcastle United - Premier League Preview and Odds

September 29, 2019 16:30pm - King Power Stadium (Leicester)

Premier League

Leicester City can rise up to third place in the Premier League table with a win at home to Newcastle on Sunday afternoon. Meanwhile, a point or better would lift the visitors out of the relegation zone.

Many pundits predicted that Leicester City would compete for sixth place in England`s top tier this term but the Foxes could be real contenders for the top four based on their early performances. Their only defeat came via a 1-0 scoreline against Manchester United at Old Trafford and there would have felt unlucky not to have come away with at least a point from that encounter.

Brendan Rodgers probably feels he still has work to do to get his men playing the way he wants so the future looks bright for the team from the East Midlands. Their best result of the season so far was a 2-1 win over Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. A win on Sunday would put them third in the table just two points behind reigning champions Manchester City.

Newcastle United also earned there best result against Tottenham, winning 1-0 in London back in August. However, that remains their only win of the season so far.

With just five points on the board, the Magpies currently occupy 19th place in the table and are still looking for their first home win of the campaign. Victory on Sunday would lift them to 13th and ease some of the pressure on Steve Bruce who has yet to convince the St James` Park faithful that he is the right man for the job.

Under the guidance of Rafa Benitez, the Geordies edged to a 1-0 victory last term but a repeat of that result seems unlikely this time around.

Betting odds and tips

Leicester City are looking like genuine contenders for a place in the top six and could even push for a top-four finish. Brendan Rodgers has them playing some exciting football and they are unbeaten in their last five games at home.

Newcastle have not looked convincing under Steve Bruce since squeezing their one and only win of the season at Spurs. As a result, the home wins looks like the only option worth backing in this game.

You can back Leicester City to win at 3/5.
