Serie A preview and odds: Lazio vs Roma

April 03, 2016 15:00pm - Stadio Olimpico

Serie A

League position will mean little on Sunday night as Rome`s biggest two teams go head-to-head in the Derby della Capitale.

Lazio playing for pride

Lazio may be out of the race for the European places but there is still plenty to play for with the all-important bragging rights at stake on Sunday night. In addition, the home side could also disrupt their rival`s attempts to secure Champions League football for next season.

The Biancocelesti come into this game having lost just two of their last 15 games. However, both of those defeats came on home soil. In their last match, they held Milan to a 1-1 draw at the San Siro, and prior to that they eased to a 2-0 win over Atalanta.

One defeat in 16 for Roma

Roma have fallen to just one defeat in their last 16 league games and have not lost any of their last nine. As a result, they have overtaken Fiorentina and currently occupy the third Champions League qualification spot. A win on Sunday would ensure that they retain a five-point cushion over the team from Florence going into the last seven games.

A run of eight successive wins for Spaletti`s team was brought to an end in the last game week when they were held 1-1 at home by Inter. Away from home, they have won their last four in a row.

Team news

The home side are suffering from a bit of an injury crisis with Keita Balde Diao, Ricardo Kishna, Abdoulay Konko, Stefan Radu, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Dusan Basta, Stefan de Vrij and Ravel Morrison all on the sick list, while Senad Lulic is suspended.

Things are not quite so gloomy for the visitors - however, they will still have to make do without the injured trio of Norbert Gyomber, Ezequiel Ponce and Elio Capradossi.
