Heavyweight Boxing Betting Preview: Anthony Joshua vs. Joseph Parker

March 31, 2017 22:00pm - Cardiff, Wales

World Heavyweight Unification Championship

There is major fight action this weekend as reigning IBF and WBA champion Anthony Joshua takes on WBO champion Joseph Parker in Cardiff with all three titles up for grabs. Whoever wins will hold all the major belts with the exception of the WBC currently in the possession of Deontay Wilder. Both men are undefeated so there is added spice here as the No. 1 and No. 3 boxers in the division go head to head.

In the absence of star names such as Floyd Mayweather, Anthony Joshua is the perfect man to fill the void. He has the personality and widespread appeal to become one of the top names in the sport - if he isn`t already. He has certainly captured the imagination of the British public who have been longing for a Heavyweight champion for many years. Since breaking through at the 2012 Olympic Games, he has more than fulfilled his potential and surpassed all expectations.

He comes here with a perfect record having disposed of Wladimir Klitschko in his last fight, his toughest test yet. He was floored in that fight but pulled off a remarkable comeback in what was one of the most entertaining Heavyweight clashes of the last 10 years. That win gave him the confidence and belief that he take on anyone at this level. And he is just a joy to watch in the ring.

Out to spoil the Joshua party will be young New Zealander Joesph Parker. Since turning professional in 2012, the 26-year-old has gone from strength to strength and can now be considered amongst the elite heavyweights. He picked up the WBO title in 2016 and has successfully defended his belt twice.

However, despite being an undefeated heavyweight champions, he has not been totally convincing in fights against lesser opponents. But he seems to have a knack of doing enough to get the win rather than totally dominating and because of this, he will enter this fight as the clear underdog.

Anthony Joshua Stats:

•Age: 28

•Height: 6` 6"

•Reach: 82"

•Record: 20 - 0 (20 KOs)

Joseph Parker stats:

•Age: 26

•Height: 6` 4"

•Reach: 78"

•Record: 24 - 0 (18 Kos)

Betting odds and tips:

This is a massive step up for Parker and he will have to hope that Joshua has an off-day here. He best chance will be to try and take the fight the distance, just as he has in his last three fights. But achieving that and coming out with a points advantage seems unlikely.
