Newcastle United have a had a decent start on their return to the Premier League bagging three wins from their first six games, only two less that Middlesbrough achieved in the whole of last season. As a result, they are currently sat in 10th place in the table and will be looking to maintain some distance between themselves and the relegation places. Next up, is a home clash against Rafa Benitez`s old side Liverpool.

The Magpies have already shown some character this term, bouncing back from a pair of consecutive defeats at the start of the campaign to win their next three in a row. Last weekend, they were left empty-handed again as they were undone by a single goal away to fellow newbies Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Spanish coach has certainly given the fans new belief and they will go into this game full of confidence despite the quality of the opposition.

Liverpool will arrive here on the back of a long trek back from Russia where, after dominating the game, they will have felt disappointed to only come away with a point. The 1-1 draw against Spartak Moscow, was the latest in a long line of matches in which the Reds have enjoyed the bulk of the possession and created plenty of chances but have failed to finish the other team off.

In their last league match, they almost suffered a similar fate but eventually edged to a 3-2 victory over Leicester City. Only a penalty save from Simon Mignolet penalty saved their blushes. Jurgen Klopp will be looking for a response here and will glad to be able to welcome key man Sadio Mane back into the fold.

Liverpool are probably due another big win but they will need to start converting their chances. When they are at their best they are a match for anyone in the league and Newcastle will be hoping that they have another off day.
