Newcastle United vs Manchester City - Premier League Preview and Odds

November 30, 2019 12:30pm - St. James’ Park (Newcastle)

Premier League

Manchester City can move to within six points of league leaders Liverpool - on a temporary basis at least - with a win at Newcastle United on Saturday lunchtime. The hosts themselves could rise to ninth place if they can defy the odds and beat the reigning champions.

The Magpies put in a disappointing display in their Monday night defeat to Aston Villa and dropped to 14th in the table. However, they remain five points clear of safety and with such a congested mid-table, they could quickly rise up the table with some positive results.

The good news is they are unbeaten in their last five at home having won two and drawn three. Those wins came against fellow mid-table sides Manchester United and AFC Bournemouth. They will also be buoyed by the fact they won this fixture 2-1 last season under former boss Rafa Benitez - their only win in their last 22 Premier League matches against City.

Steve Bruce will be hoping that his £77m attacking trio of Joelinton, Miguel Almirón and Allan Saint-Maximin can add to their tally of just one goal between them.

Meanwhile, the Sky Blues cannot afford to drop too many more points if they are to retain their Premier League title. They are already nine points adrift of Liverpool, and Leicester City and Chelsea have also put themselves in the mix with two-thirds of the season still to play.

Pep Guardiola`s men have already lost three times this season and have not looked at their best. The same could also be said of Liverpool but unlike City, the Reds have still managed to find a way to avoid defeat in all of their games. With a tough run of games coming up, it is vital they grab all three points from their trip to the northeast.

Betting odds and tips

After an unconvincing display in their 1-1 midweek draw at home to Shakhtar Donetsk, City will just be happy to get back to winning ways. They remain a little fragile at the back and could face another tricky outing here against a side that has not lost a league game at home since August. However, they should have enough to come out on top.

You can back Manchester City to win 2-1 at 8/1.
